Born in Venice in 1254, Marco Polo was only 17 when he took a three and a half year journey through Asia with his father and uncle. He spent 17 years in Peking, winning the trust and respect of the great Emperor Khan, for whom he carried out a series of missions. Throughout his long travels, he always made an effort to understand the local cultures, languages, traditions and customs.
