ALICE is a thirty-five year old woman who lives in a pleasant little villa in northern Rome along with her husband, a nine-year old son and three immigrant housekeepers. Her main trait is her superficiality, but her unpleasant disposition and class-consciousness are also some of her qualities. Her life seems to have a silver lining, but it soon turns into a nightmare. Her husband, who owns a bathroom fixture company, dies in an accident and she finds herself on her uppers, with enormous debts to be paid off and social services threatening to take her son away from her. At this point Alice and her son Filippo are forced to move out of the high-rise neighbourhood and into the suburbs, into the building where their butler Aziz lives. What a shock! Alice has to come up with something to save her own life and the life of her son. The fastest way isn’t always the easiest, but it’s the oldest job in history.
