Monte Cassino. In 1944 one of the most epic and tragic battles was taking place at the foot of the centuries-old Benedictine abbey. In order to dominate the series of hills dominating the only road to Rome, the Allies launched four massive, yet senseless, frontal attacks sending men from countless nations to their deaths. Defending the heights of Cassino, crack troops of the German Wehrmacht: the paratroopers. Sixty years later, seven of these have agreed to return with us on this Battlefield Tour and to tell us their frightful stories.
