The story of the 1942 Patagonian Football World Cup will soon become a film which is still in production and that will be available next summer prior to the Football Cup  Championship in South Africa. Directed by Lorenzo Garzella and Filippo Macelloni, produced by Daniele Mazzocca of Verde Oro and internationally distributed by Rai Trade, the story is loosely based on Osvaldo Soriano's short story "El hijo de Butch Cassidy". It aims at reconstructing the events related to the 1942 World Football Championship which took place in Patagonia but was never acknowledged by the official football organisms. The championship was organized thanks to the efforts of Count Vladimir (Von) Otz, an eccentric patron of the arts and sports of Balkan origins who emigrated to Argentina in the 1930's. "The Lost World Cup" manages to reconstruct football matches that have become legendary, among which two semi-finals: Germany-Italy 4-3 (a kind of preventive revenge of the German team) and Mapuches-England, which ended 3 to 2 for e indefatigable indios, suspected of using ointments of shamanic origin. The film ends with the final match between Mapuches and Germany, secretly supported by the Third Reich. The mystery on the final result, as yet unsolved today which wecan now recount thanks to the finding of almost unreadable footage. Rai Trade expects this new film to be presented on the occasion of major international festivals during the year.
