The New York Times presents the Teatro alla Scala’s opening performance broadcast live in HD at the Miller Theatre, Columbia University.
Carlo Nardello (Rai Trade): “The Opera publicizes Italy”.
The New York Times, on the 3rd of December edition, has introduced the live broadcast in high definition of the Teatro alla Scala’s opening performance with the ‘Don Carlo’, conducted by Daniele Gatti. Rai Trade has, in fact, conceded the rights for the transmission of the opening of Milan’s Opera season in the USA to the Emerging Pictures Company, which has also involved, amongst others, the theatres of Baltimore (Maryland), Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) and Los Angeles (California). In New York the ‘all sold out’ has already been registered: the 600 available seats turned out to be insufficient to satisfy the demand that has arisen in such a short time. “And this – says Carlo Nardello, Rai Trade’s CEO – is an important signal that denotes the pragmatism of the choices we make. This is a venture that will carry culture and Italianess far beyond our borders, in the United States, but also inside the Louvre Museum in Paris (all sold out) and on TV (Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Croatia and Japan). The ‘Don Carlo’ will also have a significant outcome at the Cinemas in England, Scotland, Wales, Australia, Spain and Canada. And also in Italy thanks to the Warner Multiplex Cinema Screens and the Microcinema and Digima Cinema Circuits. We have observed the market’s demands and conceded on the various requirements, also the technological ones, and the outcome is unmistakable”.
